Pope Leo appoints Luistro to Vatican dicastery

MANILA, Philippines — Pope Leo XIV has appointed former education secretary Bro. Armin Luistro as a member of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
Luistro is among 19 new members appointed to the dicastery, which is tasked to promote, encourage and regulate the practice of evangelical counsels.
Consolata Missionary Sister Simona Brambilla will lead the dicastery, becoming the first woman to head a major Vatican office.
Luistro had served as the late president Noynoy Aquino’s education chief.
He is currently the superior general of the De La Salle Brothers, also known as the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
Elected to the post in 2022, Luistro is the 28th successor of the congregation’s founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, and the first Asian to hold the position.
