Lawmaker defends Konektadong Pinoy Act

MANILA, Philippines — Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco yesterday defended the Konektadong Pinoy Act, saying the KPA would boost broadband and lower internet cost in the country.
“Our country will not have economic development if we have slow internet. This law will not only make connectivity faster, but it will also help level the playing field for businesses across the country,” Tiangco said.
He added that the KPA “is not about giving special privileges to new players, but about ensuring that all Filipinos, especially those in underserved areas, get fast, reliable and affordable internet.”
Tiangco, who chairs the House information and communications technology committee, said the KPA also protects existing investments while promoting fair and sustainable competition.
