Yulo nails all-around bronze

MANILA, Philippines — Carlos Yulo has a certain way of reminding people why he is an Olympic double-gold medalist.
In his first competition after his Paris Games magnificence last year, Yulo snared a men’s individual all-around bronze Thursday that jump started his campaign in the Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Jecheon, South Korea.
The 25-year-old dynamo from Leveriza in Manila showed he didn’t lose a step a year after Paris and amassed a score of 83.632, good enough for a podium finish in the event dominated by fellow Olympic golden boy Shinnosuke Oka of Japan, who had 85.131.
Another Japanese, Tsuyoshi Hasegawa, took the silver with an 83.965.
It was an impressive performance for Yulo as he also qualified in all six apparatuses but pommel horse.
He was first and second in floor exercise (14.433) and vault (14.400), respectively, where his two Paris mints came from, fourth in parallel bars (14.166) and sixth in rings (13.633).
