CHED-7 now accepts applicants for merit scholars
CEBU, Philippines — The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced that its Merit Scholarship Program for academic year 2025-2026 is ongoing, but for those who want to avail themselves of the scholarship program will still have until June 20, 2025 to apply.
The commission has already asked the assistance of the Department of Education - Central Visayas in the information dissemination to drum up more applicants for the program.
DepEd - 7 Director Salustiano Jimenez had issued a regional memorandum concerning the communication from CHED.
The CHED scholarship program is intended for incoming first-year college students. A total of 195 slots are available for the region, CHED said.
To avail of the scholarship, one has to enroll in a recognized priority program of Private Higher Education Institutions (Private HEls) or State Universities and colleges/local universities and colleges (sucs/LUCs) with certificate of program compliance (COPC) whose general weighted average is at least 93 percent and above.
The combined annual gross income of parents, or legal guardian of the applicant should not exceed P500,000.
Other requirements include accomplished application form, birth certificate, certified true copy of form 138, latest Income Tax Return of parent/s or guardian, certificate of tax exemption/non-filer of parent/s or guardian issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
For children of Overseas Filipino Workers and seafarers, a certified true copy of latest contract or proof of income may be considered.
A notarized certificate of guardianship, person with disability identification card, solo parent, indigenous people certification, senior citizen identification card, underprivileged and homeless citizens certification issued by Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD), City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office(CSWD/MSWD) and Social Cue Study Report isued by CSWD/MSWD covered under Magna Carta of the Poor and/or first generation students (first in the family to enter college), are also being required, if applicable.
Successful applicants may get as much as P120,000 thousand per academic year, depending on which school they choose to enroll.
