400 telco workers Chinese ‘spies’, DICT mag-iimbestiga

MANILA, Philippines — Iimbestigahan ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) ang umano’y ulat na nasa 400 Chinese national na ­nagtatrabaho sa DITO Telecommunication ang mga walang ­working visa at nagsisilbing mga Chinese ‘spies’.

Inamin ni DICT spokesperson Assistant Secretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso na nalaman lamang nila ang isyu sa Facebook post ng kolumnistang si Ramon Tulfo na ang DITO Telco ay may mga trabahador na Chinese nationals na “have over-extended their tourist visas.”

“Now that we have [knowledge] we will investigate… The DICT-CICC (Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center) will formally do an investigation,” sabi ni Paraiso.

Sa FB post ni Tulfo, nakasaad na nasa 400 ang “overstaying” na Chinese na maaaring threat o mapanganib sa national security habang nagtatrabaho ang mga ito para sa telecom company.

Sinabi pa ni Paraiso na ang DICT ay nakipag-ugnayan na rin sa Bureau of Immigration hinggil sa status ng mga ito. Maging ang kanilang attached agency na National Telecommunications Commission ay kasama sa mag-iimbestiga.

Ang DITO Telco ay 60% na pag-aari ng DITO CME Holdings Corp., isang unit ng conglomerate Udenna Group ni Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy habang ang natitira namang 40% ay pag-aari ng state-owned China Telecommunications Corp.
